Where are they from?
The Mapuche people are from The Patagonia desert and South Chile, and consist of 10% of the Chilean population. The Mapuche people call themselves differently according to where they live. For example the Huilliche, people from the south, the Lafkenche from the west, and the Nagche people of the valley.
Traditional Clothing
The Mapuche people usually wear traditional woven ponchos along with small dresses and special hats. The ponchos come in different colourful colours, as the Mapuches love colour.
Type of housing
The Mapuche's would usually live in a small wooden house with a straw roof. It does not have the appliances that we take for granted, instead, they use the environment to cook and to craft things. Outside of the house would be a little campfire pit to cook food and to stay warm around the family. The Mapuche people use this type of design for their house because the environment is their only source of equipment and building material to build shelter.
Traditional Transport
These people use horses to transport themselves around the environment and on long journeys. Horses are a good option because they can carry a heavy load of luggage along with carrying people on long distance trips. The Mapuche people use horses because they do not have the recourses to build a car or an automatic vehicle. Horses are the best option in the environment.
